Excellent hybrid bistro, bar, and beer and cheese store coupled to a wine market.

Directions – 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal (A / C / E trains) or Times Square-42nd Street (1 / 2 / 3 / 7 / N / Q / R / S trains) station complex – all the lines are connected underground. Head to the Port Authority (west) side of the sprawling station if not already there, and look for signs to the West 44th Street exit. Walk north on 8th Avenue, turn left on West 46th Street for one block, cross over to the west side of 9th Avenue, turn right briefly. Enter through the door on the ‘Beer Cheese’ side. Note you will pass House of Brews (46th Street) (q.v.).

Two places in one, divided down the middle. The left side is the main wine market, while on the right is a bistro, bar, and beer and cheese store all rolled into one small space – there are separate entrances. There is a $2 corkage fee for drinking on the premises added to the bottles and cans, many of the bottles on offer are high end rarities. Service is friendly. I recommend getting there early as seating is at a premium in the somewhat cramped space. If the seats at the front are taken there are a few more at the back past the counter, there are a few barstools too. (4/2015)
