New York NY 10009
A tiny bar with some fantastic and unusual beers.
Directions – L train to 1st Avenue, walk south on 1st Avenue, turn left on St. Marks Place (which is technically East 8th Street). Alternatively, F train to 2nd Avenue, use the east (1st Avenue) exit, walk north on 1st Avenue, turn right on St. Marks Place. Alternatively, 6 train to Astor Place, walk east on St. Marks Place. Note you will pass Proletariat (q.v.) on the same block, and if coming from the 6 you will also pass Barcade (St. Marks) (q.v.).
A tiny bar totally dedicated to craft beer, many of the beers stocked are rare and eclectic. There is room at the bar for only 7 or 8 people, but there are a few tables also. As it is so small, it can be quite 'cozy' on weekend nights. The food menu isn't big but there are burgers, sandwiches, salad, and various bar snacks. At the time of writing, live music is being tried on Monday nights - hopefully it will be a success. Between this place and Proletariat (q.v.), just over the road, this is certainly one hellfire block for rare beers! (11/2015)
First visit April 2016. Wow, this place is fantastic. Great range of rare and hard to find beers, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Other Half DDH Small Green Everything and AleSmith Speedway Nibs & Beans were the beers we had - just two of the many great choices on an excellent list. Definitely a don't miss!
