A well known upmarket gastropub, small beer list but two casks.
Directions – 1 train to Christopher Street, walk north-west on West 4th Street, turn left on West 11th Street for three blocks. Alternatively, A / B / C / D / E / F / M train to West 4th Street, use the southern (West 3rd Street) exit, walk north briefly to West 4th Street, turn left, turn left again on West 11th Street for three blocks. Note that, unlike most of Manhattan, the numbered streets in this area do not conform to a regular grid pattern and can confusingly cross each other.
The Spotted Pig is well known on the NYC restaurant scene. The upmarket gastropub is in the top tier as such for what it does, thanks to their British celebrity chef (and co-owner). The beer range is small and not rare, but there are two well kept cask beers including a house beer from Brooklyn Brewery (also available at The Breslin, q.v.). It is quite small but there is an upstairs level which may not be immediately apparent. Unless dining, it is highly advised to go mid-afternoon or immediately after opening time as there is unlikely to be a free stool at the bar in busier times. (11/2015)
Despite being officially a 'gastropub', Spotted Pig is much more restaurant than bar. You will find some good beers - we enjoyed a Bronx Brewery Spring Pale Ale on our April 2017 visit - but we come here primarily for the excellent food, which justifies its Michelin star. Don't miss the famous burger with shoestring fries...
