Excellent beer bar and store hybrid. *****CLOSED!*****
Directions – L train to Bedford Avenue, take the Bedford Avenue exit (west end, at the rear of trains coming from Manhattan), walk south on Bedford Avenue and turn left on Grand Street. Alternatively, J / M / Z train to Marcy Avenue, take the Havemeyer Street (west) exit, head north on Havemeyer Street and turn left on Grand Street, continue for almost 3 blocks.
What started out as primarily a store went more towards the bar aspect by the addition of a row of comfortable stools along most of the serving area, however these were taken out again after a few months and the place has reverted to more of a store atmosphere although you can still drink there. There are a few tables and benches still extant otherwise it’s standing room only. There are 10 well chosen craft taps (with capability to have up to 16 on), 400 to 500 bottles and cans, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. The location is great for a craft beer crawl without having to walk very far at all, A New York Beer & Pub Guide has two other big favourites within a minute’s walk (Rosamunde, Luckydog – q.v.). There are regular beer events, and a monthly trivia night. No food except pretzels (I wish they would bring back the toasted cheese sandwiches they once had, hint hint). Definitely a solid beer destination, especially if on a crawl. (1/2015) ****UPDATE 4/2015**** Breukelen Bier Merchants has announced it will close permanently after business on Saturday 18th April 2015.
Excellent beer store/bar between Luckydog and Spuyten Duyvil. Great selection of c. 500 bottles and 16 drafts. NB: Rosamunde Sausage Grill is between here and Luckydog.
