Absolutely top quality beers which are also very innovative can be found at this excellent brewery with a smart taproom, beers are brewed by well-known NYC brewing hero Chris Cuzme. Chris is also one of the two owners, the other partner being David Scharfstein. The size of the brewing plant is 15BBL. The bar top is very attractive, made of slightly uneven slate. The story of the Fifth Hammer name is as follows. In folklore, Pythagoras discovered the secrets of musical harmony within a forge when he came across five men hammering with five hammers, four of which had sounds in harmony. But the fifth hammer was discordant and not understood, and could not be part of a musical range. Basically, outside the perceived normal range. This is representative of many of the beers which are brewed - outside the normal style parameters. Popular with families at weekends. (11/2017)
